OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
In honor of Veterans Day and to highlight the important role that the
transportation and logistics industry has in supporting national
defense, Werner Enterprises (NASDAQ: WERN), a premier transportation and
logistics provider, will showcase its freight management services on
Thursday, Nov. 11 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the company's global
headquarters. During the event, the company's associates, who are
veterans, will be honored alongside an International® MaxxPro®,
Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) military vehicle, which is
currently in use in operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. In addition,
Chief Operating Officer of Werner Enterprises and President of Werner
Global Logistics, Derek Leathers, and Navistar Defense Manager of
Manufacturing Operations, Peter Chapman, will speak at 10:30 a.m.
"Many people don't realize the extensive role that the transportation
and logistics industry plays in the support of our troops," said
Leathers. "The MaxxPro MRAP is an example of a final product that saves
lives, and everyone at Werner is proud to be a part of the extended
‘Navistar family.'"
Werner Enterprises' Freight Management Services is responsible for
managing nearly every piece of material that is needed to construct and
produce the vehicle at its assembly plant in West Point, Miss.
-
The MaxxPro incorporates the latest design in armoring technology and
has been extensively tested by the military. The V-Shaped hull design
is a proven technology used in theater today. The shape of the hull
deflects the blast of a land mine or improvised explosive device (IED)
away from the vehicle to protect the soldiers inside.
-
More than 7500 MaxxPro vehicles have been produced.
-
Navistar has been producing trucks to support military needs since WWI.
-
Werner Enterprises has been Lead Logistics Provider for Navistar
Defense freight since February 2008.
-
Numerous types of shipments are used to manage the MRAP parts and
freight: Full Truckload and Less Than Truckload—Flatbed, Air, Rail,
Expedited and International.
All media and military personnel with a current military ID are invited
and encouraged to attend the event, which will be held at 14507 Frontier
Road, Omaha, Neb. 68138
